Expert Laser Center is a medical rehabilitation center in Bucharest, where the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation consultation is integrated, when the case requires it, with functional assessment technologies such as skeletal muscle ultrasound, FLIR camera medical thermography, ThermoHuman thermal analysis, postural assessment and measurements of mobility and function. The treatment can combine photobiomodulation with the THOR Laser medical systems, HILT Laser, functional recovery, postural and myofunctional therapy, and in selected cases, classical acupuncture, laser-acupuncture, and auriculotherapy. The goal is to build an individualized plan for pain and inflammation control, mobility and function recovery, supporting tissue repair and the patient's return to their activities.
In the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, we evaluate musculoskeletal and periarticular disorders, arthrosis, tendinopathies, muscle and ligament injuries, neck pain and radicular syndromes, orthopedic conditions, recovery after trauma, fractures, arthroscopy and surgical interventions, including joint replacement. We also evaluate certain peripheral neuropathies and nerve injuries, edema, slow-healing wounds, ulcers and scars, and, in well-established contexts, adverse effects of oncological treatments. For patients interested in integrative medicine, classical acupuncture, laser acupuncture, and auriculotherapy are available.
We discuss the onset and evolution of the symptoms, the known diagnoses, the investigations, the treatments tried, and your goals. Next comes the clinical and functional examination of the affected region. Depending on the case, thermography, postural analysis, or other evaluations may be useful. Only then do we determine whether there is an indication for THOR and how we will follow up the result.
The duration depends on the complexity of the case and the included investigations. A patient with a simple local problem requires a different type of evaluation than a patient with chronic pain, neurological symptoms, complex posture, or multiple painful areas.
Bring anything that can change the medical decision: MRI, CT/CBCT, X-rays, ultrasounds, relevant tests, medical letters, surgical bills, a list of medications, and if you have a condition or a visible progression over time, photographs taken chronologically.
Yes. It is therefore useful to review the diagnosis, target structure, dose, and type of interventions used so far. The fact that a physical therapy procedure did not help does not mean that all physical methods will have the same result.
For medical protocols, we prefer that treatment begin with an evaluation. The same pain may originate from a tendon, joint, nerve, muscle, or spine, and the target for photobiomodulation should be chosen based on the cause.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation consultation also has the role of guiding the patient’s path. When the clinical picture requires it, we work interdisciplinary with orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, rheumatology, vascular surgery, diabetology, dermatology, oncology, plastic surgery, dentistry, or oral-maxillofacial surgery. Recovery is integrated with the etiologic treatment and the recommendations of the other specialties.
Yes, when the clinical question can be clarified by ultrasound. Musculoskeletal ultrasound can assess the dynamics of tendons, muscles, bursae, certain ligaments, joint effusion and other superficial structures. It complements the clinical examination and does not automatically replace MRI.
It means that the plan is not built around a single procedure. Depending on the case, it may combine medical evaluation, therapeutic exercise, postural or myofunctional recovery, photobiomodulation, functional monitoring, and collaboration with other specialties. The interventions are chosen based on the diagnosis and objective.
THOR is a medical photobiomodulation platform that uses laser and LED applicators to deliver controlled delivery of near-infrared and red light. The THOR system has indications such as oral mucositis, tendinopathies, joint pain, cervical and lumbar pain. At Expert Laser Center, the applicator, area, and protocol are chosen based on the diagnosis, target tissue, and clinical objective.
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the controlled use of non-ionizing light to modulate biological processes. In the literature, it is studied for effects on pain, inflammation, microcirculation, and tissue repair processes. The effect depends on the parameters used, the tissue being treated, and the clinical indication.
THOR is designed for photobiomodulation, not for ablation or surgery. The goal is to achieve a controlled photobiological response, not to burn or vaporize tissue.
Giant Laser Cluster is one of the THOR applicators for photobiomodulation, designed for controlled treatment of larger surfaces. For smaller targets, nerve tracts, trigger points or other regions, different applicators are available. The choice of applicator is part of the dosage of the treatment; it is not simply a technical preference.
Because a superficial injury, a tendon, a peripheral nerve, a joint and a large muscle area are not the same target. The surface, depth and clinical objective influence the choice of the applicator.
PBM does not aim to produce a therapeutic thermal effect. Depending on the applicator and the area, the patient may perceive a subtle warmth or almost no heat at all.
As a rule, the application is comfortable and non-invasive. It does not involve an incision or injection. The sensation may vary depending on the region, sensitivity, and applicator; from no sensation to a more firm touch sensation.
Because pain can have a neural component. In mechanism-oriented protocols, local tissue, the relevant nerve pathway, trigger points, and, in certain situations, regions associated with edema can be included. We do not automatically treat only the point indicated with the finger.
In certain protocols, especially when there is edema or a regional inflammatory component, relevant lymph nodes may be included. The indication depends on the clinical context.
Trigger points are hyper-irritable areas of a strained muscle band that can produce local or projected pain. When the myofascial component is relevant, they can be included in the protocol.
There is no universal number. An acute injury, neuropathy, chronic tendinopathy, or a sprain have different biological rhythms. The plan is initially established and adjusted according to the response.
The frequency depends on the diagnosis, the stage of the disease, the dose and the objective. Some protocols have a more frequent initial phase and then more rare sessions; others have a different logic.
Some patients notice changes in pain or mobility early on, while processes such as repairing a tendon, recovering a nerve, healing a wound, or growing hair require time. We assess the trend, not just the immediate effect of a single session.
No. Photobiomodulation is not a therapy where effectiveness is measured by how warm the skin feels. Parameters, target, and dose are more important than the thermal sensation.
Yes, in many recovery plans, PBM can be integrated with therapeutic exercise, load control, manual therapy, or other interventions. The order and frequency are determined based on the case.
Often, yes, but the list of medications must be communicated to the doctor. Some photosensitizing medications or certain clinical situations require precautions and the protocol must be adapted accordingly.
It may reduce the need to rely exclusively on symptomatic treatment in certain situations, but it does not stop or change the prescribed medications without the agreement of the doctor who prescribed them.
The general principle may be similar, but a professional medical device differs in parameters, applicators, dosage, and integration into a diagnosis. «Red light» is not a medical dosage in itself.
Household devices can have different powers, dosages, and indications. For a real pathology, the important difference is between generic exposure and a protocol in which the target, dose, and progression are medically monitored.
It is studied to influence the biological processes involved in tissue repair and recovery. In medical language, we prefer to say exactly what tissue and what function we are aiming for, instead of using «regeneration» as a generic promise.
Medical thermography is a non-invasive method that records the infrared radiation emitted naturally by the body's surface and transforms it into a temperature map. At Expert Laser Center we use a FLIR medical camera and analyze the images in a clinical context.
It can highlight hyperthermia, hypothermia, or asymmetries that, in the appropriate context, can be compatible with inflammatory, vasomotor, or load-related changes. However, we do not label any area that is warmer as «inflammation» without clinical correlation.
It does not visualize the anatomy of the nerve. Some neurological or neuropathic conditions can alter vasomotor regulation and skin temperature, and thermography can detect these functional consequences.
No. The MRI shows anatomical structures; the thermography shows a functional pattern of temperature on the body surface. Sometimes the two respond to completely different questions and can be complementary.
No. Ultrasound visualizes structures and movement in real time. Thermography maps the skin temperature. The choice depends on the clinical question.
It does not emit ionizing radiation. The camera records the infrared radiation emitted naturally by the body's surface.
No. It is a non-contact examination and no injections are required.
Yes. The effort, the hot shower, the creams, the massage, the sun exposure, smoking, the compression clothes and the environmental temperature can all affect the skin. That is why the patient receives preparation instructions and has a period of acclimatization before the images.
The body needs a period of acclimatization to the controlled environment of the room. Otherwise, the temperature outside, the clothes, or the activity immediately prior to that can distort the thermal map.
Yes. One of the advantages of the method is the possibility of repeating the examination under standardized conditions and comparing the evolution over time.
It may show a relevant thermal pattern in the symptomatic region, but pain does not always have a direct thermal signature. Sometimes the painful area and the source of the problem do not coincide.
Yes, as a complementary instrument for monitoring and prevention. With an FLIR camera and ThermoHuman analysis, thermal asymmetries and time-varying variations can be quantified; information that correlates with fatigue, recovery after injury, and return-to-play. ThermoHuman uses automatic segmentation and AI algorithms for analysis; thermography is not used alone for diagnosis or to predict an injury with certainty.
Yes. Thermal maps of the lower limbs can be useful in certain functional and circulatory evaluations, but important vascular suspicions require the specific investigations recommended by the doctor.
Yes, the thermal distribution of the scalp can be documented in certain monitoring protocols. However, for the diagnosis of alopecia, dermatological evaluation and trichoscopy remain important investigations.
No. Thermography can document the thermal distribution and breast asymmetries as complementary functional information and can be useful in serial comparisons, performed in a standardized manner. It does not replace mammography, breast ultrasound, or MRI when they are indicated, and should not be used as a single screening method for breast cancer. A new or progressive thermal change should be correlated with standard senological evaluation.
ThermoHuman is a software dedicated to thermal analysis. It uses computer vision and artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically segment body regions, quantify temperatures and asymmetries, and track them over time. The software organizes and quantifies the data; the diagnosis and medical decision are the responsibility of the clinician.
An examination describes the thermal distribution at a given moment. Serial examinations, conducted under comparable conditions, allow the tracking of asymmetry, the response to loading or treatment, and recovery after an injury. In sports and recovery, this dynamic can provide additional information beyond an isolated image.
It can highlight asymmetries and thermal variations in the affected region and in adjacent or contralateral areas. These data may suggest functional compensations and are interpreted together with posture, clinical examination, mobility, strength, and performance data.
It can be used as part of a multifactorial screening and load monitoring. ThermoHuman describes uses for asymmetries, fatigue, recovery, and return-to-play. However, we do not consider that a thermogram alone can safely predict an injury.
Yes, a series of standardized examinations can document the persistence or change of a thermal pattern or asymmetry. This information is complementary; any new or progressive change must be correlated with the senological evaluation and standard imaging.
It can contribute to the overstretching of certain structures, but the pain is usually multifactorial. Therefore, posture is interpreted together with force, mobility, history, and daily load.
The postural assessment can identify asymmetries, compensations, and functional limitations and can be useful in monitoring. However, the structural diagnosis of scoliosis and the quantification of the curvature are based, when indicated, on radiography and the measurement of the Cobb angle.
It is the accentuation of the thoracic curvature. It can be postural or structural, and the course varies depending on the cause, age, rigidity, and symptoms.
It is the accentuation of the lordotic curvature, the most frequently discussed lumbar one. It is not treated in a photograph, but in the functional context: hip mobility, trunk control, pain, and the patient's activities.
The term frequently used in international literature is forward head posture; in Romanian it can be described as a posture with the anterior projection or translation of the head. In ordinary language, the patient says that they „stand with their head forward”. Its meaning is established in the context of cervical mobility, symptoms, and the entire postural evaluation.
There are functional relationships between the cranio-cervico-mandibular system and the posture of the head and neck. In patients with ATM and cervical symptoms, we evaluate the whole system, without assuming that any postural problem originates from a bite.
ADM stands for amplitude of motion. Measuring the mobility of a joint helps us to objectively assess the limitation and to monitor recovery over time.
Because «I feel better» is important, but the function must also be quantified. Pain, the range of motion, tolerance to exertion, and concrete activities can all be tracked together.
It can be repeated when we need to compare the evolution or adjust the recovery schedule.
Yes. The postural assessment can be complemented with digital instruments and thermographic data analyzed through ThermoHuman. The technology helps to target asymmetries and compare over time, but the interpretation remains medical and functional.
Yes, photobiomodulation can be integrated into the recovery of certain back pain, depending on the pain mechanism. Targets can include the musculature, joints, nerve structures, or relevant trigger points.
Yes, PBM is used for associated painful, inflammatory, muscular or radicular components. The plan depends on the neurological examination and imaging.
This is not the PBM mechanism. The objective is to control the symptoms and support functional recovery, not vaporize the disc.
We do not automatically limit ourselves to the area where the leg hurts. Depending on the examination, the lumbar region, the nerve pathway, the muscles, and the trigger points can be relevant.
Lower back pain is associated with symptoms that descend to the lower limb, often through irritation of a nerve root. Tingling, numbness, or weakness must be evaluated neurologically.
Yes, if the symptoms and examination indicate a component that may benefit from PBM. The size of the protrusion on the MRI is not the only criterion; the clinical picture matters.
Progressive weakness, urinary/faecal control disorders, stool anesthesia, fever associated with pain, major trauma or other important neurological signs require urgent medical evaluation.
It can be useful when the pain has a muscular and myofascial component. We also assess cervical mobility, posture, any neurological symptoms, and factors that maintain overexertion.
It may originate from the musculature, thoracic spine, cervical spine, shoulder, or other sources. The location of the pain is not sufficient for diagnosis.
PBM does not structurally correct the curvature. It can be integrated for pain and muscular overstretching, while scoliosis management relies on specific evaluation and exercise/orthotics/surgery when indicated.
Yes. Photobiomodulation is being studied in knee osteoarthritis for pain and function and can be integrated into a program that includes exercise, weight control, and load management.
The realistic clinical goal is pain reduction and improved function. We do not promise the complete restoration of an advanced osteoarthritis cartilage.
The presence of a prosthesis does not automatically rule out PBM. The indication depends on the reason for the treatment, the postoperative stage, and the medical evaluation.
Yes, PBM can be integrated into postoperative recovery for objectives such as pain, edema, and tissue recovery, in coordination with the surgeon's protocol.
PBM can be used for symptoms and the recovery of surrounding tissues in appropriate cases, but the course of a meniscus tear depends on the type, location, instability, and clinical picture.
It can be integrated for pain and the inflammatory component, but recovery must include knee biomechanics, strength, and load control.
Yes, in selected cases, for pain management and function. The depth of the joint and periarticular tissues influence the protocol.
Yes, but first we determine whether the likely source is the rotator cuff tendon, the bursa, the joint, the capsule, or a cervical problem. The protocol changes depending on the structure.
It can be integrated for pain and to facilitate the recovery of mobility, but adhesive capsulitis requires a progressive and time-consuming functional program.
Yes, in many situations PBM can be integrated into the management of local pain and inflammation after confirmation of the diagnosis and the exclusion of a cause that requires different treatment.
Yes. Recovery after arthroplasty aims to control pain and edema, regain mobility, strength, walking, and function. PBM can be integrated when indicated and when compatible with the postoperative stage and the orthopedic surgeon’s recommendations.
Yes. Recovery after an LIA injury, whether surgically treated or treated conservatively, aims for complete extension, edema control, quadriceps and posterior chain strength, neuromuscular control, and objective criteria for return to sport. Functional evaluations and, in addition, thermography can help monitor the evolution.
Yes. The program depends on the degree of the injury, the knee stability, the associated injuries, and the orthopedic strategy. Recovery is progressive and oriented towards regaining stability and function.
Yes. PBM is used in certain tendinopathies for pain and to support repair processes, alongside load management and progressive exercise.
Tendinopathy can include structural and adaptive changes of the tendon, not just inflammation. Therefore, good treatment combines symptom control with the progressive re-loading of the tendon.
Yes, if the diagnosis is confirmed and the protocol is adapted to the location and stage. Exercise and loading remain important components.
It can be integrated into the treatment of lateral shoulder pain, along with load modification, exercises, and correction of factors that maintain overexertion.
Yes. PBM can be included in a plan that addresses pain, fascia, leg muscles, footwear, and loading.
This is not the goal of PBM. The pain in the heel area is not automatically equivalent to «pintenul», and the treatment aims at the structure that generates the symptoms.
It can be integrated into the recovery phases for pain, edema and tissue repair, along with protection, progressive loading and the recovery of stability.
Yes, depending on the severity and stage of the injury. In the early stages, the correct diagnosis and the exclusion of a lesion that requires a different approach are crucial.
Yes. It can be integrated both in the recovery of injuries and in the management of overloads, with measurable goals for returning to sport.
It depends on the purpose and the protocol. We do not use the laser as a substitute for heating, recovery, sleep, or load management.
Yes, it is worth evaluating. In relapses, it is important to identify why the tissue is re-charged incorrectly or why it has not fully recovered; it is not enough to treat the painful episode.
It is the process by which the athlete gradually and safely returns to training and competition. The decision is based not only on the absence of pain, but also on mobility, strength, neuromuscular control, tolerance to effort, and specific tests of the sport.
It can quantify thermal asymmetries and individual variations during recovery and can add objective data for load management and return-to-play. ThermoHuman explicitly mentions applications for recovery after muscle injuries, sprains, fractures, and LIA/ACL.
Yes, there are applications and literature for certain peripheral neuropathies and nerve injuries. The indication depends on the cause of the neuropathy and the severity of the deficit.
Yes, after evaluation. The tingling may be caused by the carpal tunnel, the cervical spine, the ulnar nerve, systemic neuropathy, or other causes.
PBM can be integrated in some cases for pain and sensory symptoms, alongside mechanical management and assessment of the severity of compression.
There may be an indication, but it is important to evaluate the ulnar nerve, strength, sensitivity, and compression factors.
It can be considered as part of the nervous system recovery, but plex injuries have very different degrees and require neurological evaluation and sometimes electrodiagnostic testing.
PBM is studied for the recovery of peripheral nerves and can be integrated in certain cases. The prognosis depends on the type of lesion, the continuity of the nerve and the elapsed time.
There is literature on PBM in diabetic neuropathy, and treatment can be considered as part of the management of symptoms and function. Diabetes control and foot care remain essential.
It is an area of clinical interest and research. In the context of oncology, the indication is determined in coordination with the oncology team and depending on the type of symptoms.
Complex regional pain syndrome is a complex condition with disproportionate pain and sensory, vasomotor, and functional changes. PBM can be one of the adjuvant interventions, but the treatment is multimodal.
In certain orofacial neuropathic pain, PBM can be considered after differential diagnosis. Trigeminal neuralgia requires neurological evaluation, and specific drug treatment remains central.
Yes. Tingling of the lower lip and beard may occur due to damage to the inferior alveolar nerve or mental after implants, extractions, or other oro-maxilo-facial interventions. Early neurosensorial evaluation is important and, if there is suspicion of contact or compression, correlation with imaging and the physician who performed the intervention. PBM is studied as an adjuvant method for the neurosensorial recovery of peripheral nerves.
There may be an impairment of the lingual nerve. We evaluate the distribution of the sensory deficit and its evolution over time, and important cases are coordinated with the oro-maxillo-facial surgery. PBM can be discussed as part of neurosensorial recovery, depending on the type of lesion and the elapsed time.
In addition to what the patient feels, we can document the area of hypesthesia/parasthesia and compare over time the response to touch; other suitable sensory tests on the affected nerve can also be performed. The goal is to objectively monitor the recovery trend.
Yes. PBM is studied and used as an adjuvant in tissue repair and can be integrated into the care of wounds along with the standard treatment of the underlying cause.
It can be useful as an adjuvant after the causes of the delay have been evaluated: infection, dehiscence, ischemia, local tension, metabolic status, or other problems.
PBM can be integrated into certain diabetic foot ulcers as an adjunct to standard care. Vascular assessment, infection control, off-loading, and glycemic control are essential components.
PBM can be integrated to support local healing, but venous ulceration also requires evaluation of venous insufficiency and compressive treatment when indicated.
In certain pressure ulcers, PBM can be used as an adjuvant. Reducing pressure, caring for the wound, nutrition, and controlling infection are fundamental.
The technique depends on the type of lesion, the applicator and the protocol. Hygiene and contamination prevention rules are respected, and the dose is adapted to the biological stage of the lesion.
It can be taken into account at certain stages for symptoms, tissue quality and remodeling, depending on the type of scar. Hypertrophic scars and keloids may also require dermatology/plastic surgery.
Yes, sometimes the scarring pain has local and neuropathic components that can be addressed in recovery. We examine the mobility of the scar, sensitivity, and the surrounding tissues.
Yes, in many postoperative protocols it can be integrated for pain, edema, and tissue recovery, with the agreement and within the context of the surgical plan.
After or before consolidation or at different stages of recovery, PBM can be integrated for pain, soft tissues and function. If there is suspicion of delayed consolidation, orthopedic evaluation and imaging are priorities.
The pain may persist due to stiffness, edema, nerve sensitization, weakness, tendons, joints, or soft tissues. «Healed bone» does not automatically mean fully recovered function.
For androgenetic alopecia, there are randomized studies and meta-analyses that show increases in hair density compared to placebo in some patients. This is one of the clinically relevant indications for PBM at the scalp level.
Currently, the most consistent data are for androgenetic alopecia. For telogen effluvium, alopecia areata and other forms, there are varying degrees of evidence and a diagnosis is important.
No. PBM aims to support the activity of viable follicles; it cannot recreate a permanently damaged follicle in a cicatricial alopecia.
Yes. PBM for the scalp is non-invasive and does not involve injections.
Yes, there may be an option for PBM in certain diagnoses, but the choice is made after evaluating the type of alopecia. Not all causes of hair loss respond to the same strategy.
Yes, in certain situations treatments can be combined. The dermatological regimen does not change without the agreement of the physician who is monitoring it.
The follicular cycle is slow. Serious evaluation is done in months, through standardized photographs and, when available, trichoscopy or other objective methods.
Thermography can be used in conjunction with documentation of thermal distribution and monitoring, but it does not replace the dermatological diagnosis of alopecia.
It can be integrated into certain post-procedural protocols, in coordination with the doctor who performed the transplant and depending on the stage of healing.
There is research regarding PBM and chemotherapy-induced alopecia, but the oncological context requires coordination with the treating team and an individual indication.
Yes. PBM has clinical data for pain and function in temporomandibular disorders and can be integrated into a plan that includes exercises, muscle management, and other interventions based on the diagnosis.
PBM is not a mechanical repositioning maneuver of the disc. The goals are pain, inflammation, muscle component, and function.
Not every click requires treatment. If there is pain, blockage, limited opening, or other symptoms, the ATM assessment determines whether PBM is needed.
Yes, the craniocervical-mandibular system works in an integrated way. We evaluate the masticatory musculature, the cervical region, posture, and mandibular function.
PBM can be useful for the painful and associated muscular component, but it does not automatically eliminate bruxism behavior and its causes.
We evaluate orofacial pain and the neuropathic component, but neuropathies require careful differential diagnosis and sometimes neurology. PBM can be adjuvant in selected cases.
For certain headaches with a muscular-cervical or myofascial component, there may be a role in recovery. New, severe headaches or those with neurological signs require appropriate medical evaluation.
It involves stimulating certain acupuncture points with laser light without the insertion of needles. At the Expert Laser Center it is used in selected contexts as part of a medical plan.
It does not involve penetration of the skin and is generally well tolerated.
Yes, it is precisely the absence of the needle that makes it attractive to patients with anxiety related to needles.
Auriculotherapy uses points on the auricle level, which are stimulated with semi-permanent needles, electrical or laser stimulation, depending on the indication and method.
No. I can use the same family of light technology, but the targets and the therapeutic reasoning are different: in one case we stimulate acupuncture points, in the other we treat a tissue or an anatomical structure.
In certain cases, yes. The plan can combine the local approach to the tissue with the stimulation of selected points, if there is a clinical justification.
Yes. At Expert Laser Center, classic acupuncture with sterile disposable needles, laser acupuncture, and auricular techniques/auriculotherapy are available. The method is chosen based on the patient, indication, and objective.
In addition to the Western medical diagnosis, an individual pattern is established for the Traditional Chinese Medicine component based on the patient's history, symptoms, and classic examination findings such as tongue and pulse. The prescribing of points is not identical for all patients with the same diagnostic label.
The treatment is medically integrated by a physician trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and laser acupuncture, including training conducted in Tai Yuan, China, and with experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Yes, for certain side effects of oncological treatment there are specific guidelines and literature. The indication must be determined in the context of the diagnosis and oncological treatment.
Yes. The correct term is oral mucositis. Photobiomodulation has one of the strongest evidence bases in the prevention and management of oral mucositis in certain oncological contexts, and THOR LX2.3 has a marketing indication for oral mucositis in Europe. The protocol is determined based on the oncological context and the patient’s treatment.
It is an area that has been studied and can be taken into account in recovery, with the coordination of the oncological team.
PBM can be used as an adjuvant in certain recovery protocols for lymphoedema. Lymphoedema can occur after sentinel node biopsy, after removal/dissection of the axillary lymph nodes, or after radiotherapy. The treatment is integrated with specific assessment, compression, exercise, and other methods of managing lymphoedema.
There is interest in PBM in the management of fibrosis and the late effects of radiotherapy. The plan is established individually and interdisciplinary.
In oncological context, a generic protocol is not applied. The area, the diagnosis, the purpose of the treatment and the oncological status are discussed with the involved doctors, and PBM is used for the established supportive indication.
Oral mucositis is the inflammation and damage of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity that can occur during certain chemotherapy regimens, radiotherapy or hematopoietic transplant. It can produce erythema, ulcers, pain and difficulty in eating.
In some oncological interventions, the sentinel node biopsy or ganglionectomy is performed; that is, one or more lymph nodes are removed. This can alter the lymphatic drainage and increase the risk of limb or regional lymphoedema.
PBM has a favorable safety profile when used as directed and with appropriate parameters. The THOR medical systems are regulated devices, and treatment is performed with specific laser safety measures.
Eye protection is part of the safety protocol for laser sources. The glasses are chosen based on the characteristics of the system used.
Pregnancy requires evaluation of the indication, the area, and the need for treatment. For elective procedures, we prefer an individual medical decision and, when relevant, coordination with the obstetrician.
PBM is light, not electrical stimulation, but cardiac history and implantable devices must be communicated. We evaluate the individual situation and avoid extrapolations between different technologies.
A metallic orthopedic implant does not automatically rule out PBM. The treatment is non-ablative and the target is determined clinically.
The pigment can alter the absorption of light, depending on the wavelength and device. The tattooed area requires caution and the adaptation of the technique.
Tell us about all the medications. Some substances may require caution, testing, or dose adjustment.
Individual evaluation is necessary and it is necessary to avoid pulsed light stimulation methods that might not be appropriate.
It depends on the cause and the general condition. A systemic infection or an acute situation may first require diagnosis and treatment of the etiologic cause.
Most patients tolerate PBM well. Sometimes symptoms may fluctuate temporarily or there may be local sensitivity; any unusual reaction should be reported.
Normally, PBM does not require sedation and the patient can continue with their activities. If the medical problem itself limits driving, the recommendation may be different.
There is no single rule. For an acute injury or tendinopathy, the loading is determined by the tissue stage, not by whether you had laser surgery.
Usually yes, unless there is a wound, dressing, or other specific indication.
Sometimes yes, but the total dose, time, and clinical priorities matter. We don’t automatically treat all painful areas in one session.
There is no simple limit valid for all indications. Children and the elderly require the indication and parameters to be adapted to the clinical context.
Yes, PBM can be integrated for pain and function, alongside exercise, load control, and other measures appropriate to the stage of osteoarthritis.
It can be useful for pain management and function in selected cases. We also evaluate the lumbar spine, the tendons and muscles around the hip.
Yes, if the symptoms are compatible with a musculoskeletal or neural component that may benefit from PBM. The neurological signs require a complete evaluation.
Yes, depending on the symptoms. We treat the pain mechanism and the relevant structures, not just the simple label on the MRI scan.
Yes, in selected cases, for painful, muscular or radicular components. Motor deficit or myelopathy requires neurological/neurosurgical evaluation.
It may help certain symptomatic components, but it does not mechanically widen the spinal canal. The severity and neurological signs dictate the behavior.
PBM is studied for pain and function in fibromyalgia, but the condition requires a global approach that includes sleep, exercise, education, and medical management.
